There’s many niche’s within affiliate marketing and your choice of topic/niche will in some way determine your level of success as an affiliate.

As an example, golf might be a niche for affiliate marketing for a golf enthusiast. They would create content, a website and a series of emails which helps golfers improve their game, for example. Through their content they will also promote affiliate products which relate to the golfing niche. When people find their content and buy products through their affiliate links, they earn commissions based on the sales they make.

Depending on the marketing strategy which an affiliate uses, they might choose one “niche” over another. For example the “money making online” niche is really competitive. So it can be difficult to get your content found in this niche because of all the competition on the internet.

The Health niche can include products and programs in nutrition, exercise, weight gain, weight loss, mental health, quit smoking and a whole host of other related items.

The Wealth niche can include money making online, Forex marketing, affiliate marketing, Bitcoin, personal finance, debt reduction, finance tips, mortgage advice etc.

Lifestyle niches can include multiple products and services too: lifestyle businesses, self improvement, time management and other things like that.

Choosing A Niche As An Affiliate

If you’re considering becoming an affiliate marketing, there’s lots of choice for your niche. It’s worth therefore taking some time to think about the niche you have most affinity with. Some niches are super competitive and so it’s much harder to get traffic to your website in these niches.

Are you wondering “what does an affiliate marketer do“? An affiliate’s job is to sell affiliate products online. This can be done in a number of ways according to the strategy an affiliate uses. Some affiliates are bloggers whereas other use video. Some affiliates run paid advertising and others create online content. Videos, blog posts or social media platforms can all be used to attract an audience.

Most affiliates will however build an email list of subscribers. This is so they can automate an email marketing campaign and send out emails “en-mass” to an ever growing audience. To build their email list they provide some kind of value driven content (or run ads) in order to encourage people to join it. What Does An Affiliate Marketer Do?

Not all affiliate marketers create content like this, though. Some affiliates aren’t interested in blogging or creating their own content. They join affiliate programs which give them ready made content which they can use. They can then run paid advertising campaigns promoting that content.

Many affiliate programs offer products, images, video content and even pre-built email marketing campaigns which are already set up to help the affiliate. The affiliate only needs to set up their systems for selling online, and promote it through paid marketing. This can still take some time, but with pre-made sales materials it can be a lot simpler than creating lots of content yourself.

What Do Affiliate Marketers Do – Email Marketing

An autoresponder is key to success for an affiliate marketer; most successful affiliates will use one. An autoresponder allows affiliates to collect email details from prospective customers and build a relationship with them over time.

From a website, a visitor only has a small amount of time to buy something. But once someone has entered their email address into a landing page or website, the affiliate can follow up with them, emailing them regularly. This process can be automated; email autoresponders can be programmed to send out messages over weeks, months and even years.

Once someone enters their name and email into a form on a website, this process starts automatically. The affiliate marketer simply builds the systems which do the selling for them in an automated way. The affiliate might test and measure out their messages to see how well their system works. Often affiliate marketers will cross test their email systems with a set number of subscribers to determine which ones work the best.

Once they find a winning email marketing campaign which works, they can leave it running and concentrate on driving traffic into their automated sales funnel.

One of the main activities which affiliate marketers do is driving traffic towards their sales funnel. Video blogging – Uploading videos to YouTube or TikTok, for example.
Social Media platforms – both free and paid options are available.

This article is an example of a blog post. By writing many blog posts and targeting specific keywords, bloggers can attract an audience from multiple different platforms:

Organically through the search engines: Bing, Yahoo, Duckduckgo and Google
Through sharing content on social media
By using share buttons on their content and getting shares from visitors
Through link building from other blogs, videos or websites.

Bloggers can also target their content specifically to people who are likely to be interested in their products. One strategy I use as a blogger is to find long tail keywords with low SEO difficulty. SEO means search engine optimisation. Optimising content for the search engines can give you more chance of ranking your content for free on the search engines. What Does An Affiliate Marketer Do? Work From Anywhere!

One of the main attractions to affiliate marketing is the ability to work from anywhere and become both financially and geographically free! Successful affiliates can earn money from their content and marketing, and earn a passive income which grows over time.

With recurring income affiliate programs, and through systems and automation, affiliates can generate an income which is unconnected to the hours they put in! To get to this stage takes some time and commitment though; but ultimately the path of affiliate marketing can give you a lot of freedom!

This means affiliates can create lives with a lot of freedom and flexibility. They don’t need employment and can ditch the commute, the boss and the job! Many affiliates decide to relocate to other countries because of the freedom they can achieve when their business becomes successful.

Using Paid Marketing

The affiliates who have less time often opt for using paid marketing to drive traffic into their sales funnel. This can be done through a number of platforms:

etc.

With a paid marketing platform, the affiliate starts out with a small budget and tests out their sales funnel. By testing and measuring their marketing and driving traffic to a landing page, they can determine whether a particular marketing campaign is successful or not.

Once a marketing strategy is working, delivering a regular profit, it can be slowly scaled up. More budget is then spent daily to send more traffic towards their landing page. In the early days of testing, you should stick to a smaller budget to learn. But as you get more data, you can spend more; knowing that your sales funnel is profitable.

To become successful as an affiliate marketer you will need a lot of drive and focus. Ideally you will be good at working on your own and setting work schedules to keep you on track.

Affiliate marketing can give you a lot of freedom, but it does take some time and commitment to make it work. To put the necessary work in, you will need a big reason! Generally those who succeed are determined and driven. Often too, they are wanting to escape from difficult circumstances and create more time and financial freedom in their lives.

If you’re wondering how to earn money through blogging, this one’s for you! Blogging is a great way to earn money once it starts working. But before you get to this point, there’s plenty of work to do. Ideally choose a blogging topic you would love to write about for a good, long time! If you choose a topic only for the money, you can easily give up way too soon when you’re having to come up with ideas for your blog.

Writing about a passion or a hobby you love is way easier than writing on a subject you know nothing about. So at least chose a topic you have an interest in if you want your blog to be successful.

Your content is likely going to be the most important factor in generating income from blogging. If nobody likes your content, they are less likely to share it and tell others about it. Google, and the other search engines are less likely to rate it and give it authority. Then, it’s less likely to rank and get free traffic from the search engine optimisation (SEO). So everything starts with creating quality content which is useful for the reader.

To help you write SEO friendly content it’s useful to use an SEO plugin such as Yoast SEO. This can help you write content which is optimised for the search engines. How To Earn Money Through Blogging – Long Tail Keywords

Another tool you can use to help write content which has less competition than most is through using Google’s free keyword planner. By finding long tail keywords on the planner which relate to your topic, you can more easily get your content listed on the search engines. To find long tail keywords with low SEO difficulty, type your main keywords into the planner and look for the less popular keywords which have less monthly views.

By comparing the shorter keyword phrases to the longer ones, you can determine which ones are a better bet to create content around. With certain keyword phrases, you can gain more attention from Google and other search engines once they pick up your content. Shorter more popular phrases tend to be much more competitive and as such you’ll have a harder time getting free traffic from them.

Using BuzzSumo For Article Titles

Buzzsumo.com is a useful resource too for bloggers and content marketers. With Buzzsumo.com, you can look for content ideas in your own specific niche and find those which are trending on the social media sites.

By creating content which mirrors the popular blog titles which perform well, you can “piggyback” on those successful articles and content which have already proved successful in terms of getting shared and going viral. Plus, you can also use content which does well to model your own content on.

Blogging For Profit – Email Marketing

Blogging is a great way to earn money but it can be tough at first. To monetise your website in the best possible way you should build an email list and offer affiliate products to your subscribers. Give away something useful to your blog visitors on your blog in exchange for their email address. High ticket affiliate products are also a consideration too, but most importantly your choice of products should reflect the topic of your blog. Affiliate coaching is important for a number of reasons. When I first started out, I thought I could do it all on my own! But time proved that this attitude was a mistake. I was full of doubt and scepticism and everything was a “scam”, even though I was desperate to make it work!

Being in a state or near constant fear isn’t good for an affiliate business. You need some assurance that you’re on the right path. Otherwise you can waste a huge amount of time. I did exactly that! Before getting the right help, I spent several years struggling as an affiliate. I jumped from one strategy to another and never got anywhere; having built many websites which did absolutely nothing. I would have scored 10 out of 10 for enthusiasm; but zero out of ten for know-how!

As an affiliate it’s therefore important to get educated and treat your affiliate education as the bedrock to build a profitable business from. As a teacher of mine once said, “you can’t build a skyscraper on the foundations of a cottage“. What I had when I started out doing affiliate marketing was the foundations of a cottage – all enthusiasm but no understanding.

They can help you uncover some of your limiting beliefs and negative self talk which stands in the way. Why You Need A Digital Marketing Coach

There’s a number of reasons why you need a digital marketing coach when starting an online business. For one, a coach will keep you accountable and on track with your marketing strategy and with moving your online business forwards.

Without a coach, it can be easier to quit, or decide for some reason that your strategy is a bad one. As you start out using digital marketing to promote your business, or someone else’s, there’s a large learning curve. You don’t always hit a home run straight away. This can be a very frustrating period and it’s easy to become doubtful or even quit altogether. This is a mistake though because once you are able to run profitable campaigns, you have a skill for life. With an online business it also means you can be profitable from anywhere!

It can appear as if you’re losing money and getting nothing for it, which can trigger the “fight or flight” response for many!

Many businesses make the mistake of scrapping their digital marketing campaigns when they don’t see any return. But initially you should be looking for data. Once you learn what advertisements work, you can keep them running and even increase budget. Those which don’t work can be scaled back or stopped. At first this can be difficult because you’ll generally need to run a few campaigns before you know which work and which don’t.

As you get better at this, you should be able to leave good campaigns running and steadily increase your budget to generate more profit. This is counterintuitive if you are programmed to spend little and be frugal.

Ultimately with a marketing campaign which is returning a profit, you’ll want to be in a position to start increasing your budget – spend more money, to make more money. This is very difficult to achieve with a poverty mindset of frugality. However, you would only increase your budget on a profitable campaign. Initially, you should spend what you can afford to lose learning how to find profitable campaigns!

Mindset & Online Business

In Michael Gerber’s book The E-Myth Revisited, he talks about shifting from an employee mindset to an entrepreneurial mindset and how one can hold the other back. As an employee moving to an entrepreneurial endeavour such as digital marketing, it can be easy to bring your old mindsets with you.

If you do they can very well hold you back, especially if you have a number of assumptions about working on your own business. A digital marketing coach can help you become more aware of these kinds of assumptions which can keep you stuck in old mindsets and not moving forwards.

An example Gerber uses in his book is an employee bringing his skillset from an employee position and trying to make it work as an entrepreneur. However, those skills which work in a 9 to 5, don’t always translate to digital marketing and online business. You have to un-learn old assumptions and habits in order to re-learn the new skill to move forwards.

Setting Expectations

But because the intake rate is very high, this also means the drop out rate is high too! Something like 3% of online businesses will actually continue and become profitable. So it’s important to know that a “get rich mentality” won’t do you any favours. If you expect it to be easy, you are probably not going to sustain the necessary effort it takes to succeed.

That being said, with the right training, tools and more importantly mindset, you can build a sustainable income from the internet if you’re determined to succeed. You need to bring your best “whatever it takes” attitude to your online business too; even with the help and resources available through online training.

Before finding an affiliate marketing mentor, my affiliate journey was a struggle. It didn’t change overnight and I still struggled, but a mentor helped me gain clarification and stop wasting so much time. Here’s some of the things I learned from getting an affiliate marketing mentor.

It’s easy to make a lot of mistakes as an affiliate marketer when you’re starting out. I spent a huge amount of time on all the wrong activities. Much of my focus was wasted because I didn’t understand where I should be putting the bulk of my time. I spent time making websites look good, rather than getting visitors. I spent time worrying and procrastinating because I didn’t know what to do. Time was also wasted jumping from one course to another, looking for the “easier” path, which of course didn’t really exist!

Once I found an affiliate marketing mentor, much of this distraction was gone. I knew what to do and how to do it, I just had to put in the work! This made things much simpler. Here’s a couple of the main pitfalls for affiliate marketers:

Shiny object syndrome – jumping from one strategy to another, and not getting any traction with any because of lack of focus. I did this for years, attempting Forex marketing, eBay buying and selling, and jumping in and out of many “make money online” courses!
Being a busy fool – Working on your own volition is difficult if you don’t have discipline. You work on things which are enjoyable rather than what is necessary. You can get distracted by so many things like social media, friends and family and phone calls. Even the work you are actually doing may not move your online business forwards!

Affiliate Marketing Mentor – Accountability

An affiliate marketing mentor can give you more accountability in your business. This is so important for anyone attempting something alone. On your own, you can always let yourself off the hook.

But once you are being held accountable, it’s more difficult to give up or drop out. Affiliate marketing isn’t easy and there will be times where you want to quit, or you just don’t believe in what you’re doing, or yourself. This is where it is useful to be connected to someone like an affiliate marketing coach or mentor.

On your own, you will probably not only have your own demons to fight, but likely also friends and family trying to persuade you to quit too! See why your friends and family don’t want you to succeed.

If you have been working for months as an affiliate with nothing to show for it, your belief and enthusiasm will definitely wane. But if you have others who are on the same journey, you can connect and reassure each other!

Affiliate Marketing Mentor – Belief

Belief that you can earn a living from affiliate marketing is pretty important. If you’re a newcomer to affiliate marketing, you are probably full of enthusiasm! But if you’ve been struggling this can soon die out! You need to keep reminding yourself of what a successful affiliate business can give you. Write out a list of your reasons for doing it. Here’s a short list I write out to remind myself why I’m working as an affiliate, for when I lose my enthusiasm:

Success with affiliate marketing means I’ll never need a job again
I’ll never have to work for a boss, again
Or commute, ever!
And I can live anywhere and earn an uncapped income
Financial freedom, time freedom and geographical freedom!

Nobody can give you the belief in yourself which you will need to overcome the hurdles for success with an affiliate business. But mentors can point you in the right direction. Self help books and books on self esteem and mental clarity have helped me. You need to keep feeding your positive intentions and avoid negative influences in order to stay the course and succeed with affiliate marketing.

Shifting From Employee to Entrepreneur

Affiliate marketers are self employed entrepreneurs. It’s a different kettle of fish to working as an employee. Employees get paid for turning up, affiliates don’t! Affiliates get rewarded for sales so if they don’t make any, they don’t get paid.

As an affiliate you can’t take a back seat like you potentially can in employment. The work which makes you a good employee, doesn’t make you a good affiliate! It can be easy to misunderstand this relationship towards work and fall into patterns of behaviour which serve you in employment, but not in entrepreneurialism.
